Tirdas, 16th Midyear, 4E 202
It was going to be a busy day. Our chefs and orphans in several establishments have been busy making chocolates and other confections. The produce and goods created at my various properties contribute to funding the orphanages. We hope the confections will provide the final income needed to make them wholly self-funding and prove to others they need not be a burden on a County’s or Hold’s income.
Our wares were to be displayed in The Blue Palace’s courtyard, and His Imperial Majesty was attending. However, before then, he will meet with me to discuss Akavir.
I went to Aurane’s tavern, where most Divine Knights gathered for breakfast.
I entered and was greeted by slurps, crunches, laughter, and good-hearted banter.

Agrard taught baking at Dragons Keep for several months and returned a few days ago.

“Good morning, Chef Agrard.”
“It is indeed, Sir Wulf.”
“It is amazing how much noise a couple of dozen Divine Knights can make!”
“I was thinking how quiet it is compared to rows of ravenous orphans at breakfast and tea.”
“All the goods for display have been delivered to The Safehouse. They will be carried from there to The Blue Palace via a long route under the gentle guidance of Wujeeta.”
“That is cruel!”
“Wujeeta will not whack Divine Knights with her broom.”
“I would not bet on that. But I meant it is cruel to march all those goodies past the people of Solitude. Children will nag their parents about wanting sweeties, and those trying to trim their waistlines will likely cry.”
“That is the idea. We want people to crave the goods we create. Free samples will be handed out in The Blue Palace’s courtyard. One bite, and they are addicted. It is a bit like being a Skooma dealer.”
“You should conduct ethics classes at Dragons Keep.”
“There is nothing unethical about supply and demand, Chef Agrard. It is the type of merchandise that determines the ethics.”
“I look forward to hearing what Her Highness and His Imperial Majesty have to say.”
“They might try and recruit you.”
“I would not want to work in The Blue Palace or The White Gold Tower. Aurane is home, Sir Wulf.”
“Thank you for helping at Dragons Keep.”
“Thank you for giving me the opportunity. The children were enthusiastic. Many demonstrated a natural talent for baking, and there were a few budding chocolatiers.”
“I had better get Olette moving. Rigmor is busy selecting clothes and will probably spend hours getting ready.”
“I assume Countess Rigmor is used to rubbing noses with royalty.”
“Yes, she is. However, like me, she does not favour too much protocol.”
I entered the main room.

His Imperial Majesty gave The Order of the Dragon powers similar to the Penitus Oculatus. However, he insisted we have a standardised uniform. So, with a couple of exceptions, Divine Knights wear Black and Red armour and kimonos.

I made my way to Olette.

“Young lady, Rigmor has arrived and is waiting for you in my chambers.”
“Are you coming with us to The Blue Palace?”
“I do not know, Olette. That depends on my meeting with His Imperial Majesty.”
“Who is Rigmor this time?”
“Rigmor is Lady Viatira Pontalius. The dweomer I have placed on her necklace helps disguise her. She is the latest of Sir Wulf Welkynd’s lady friends, so it is natural you are with her, Lady Olette Welkynd.”
“People will think you are a womaniser and a bad influence on me.”
“If any stuck-up noble comments, give them a raspberry.”
“And drag Rigmor away before she decks them!”
“Yes, that would be a sensible strategy.”
“I will leave in a minute or two, Cap’n.”
As I was passing, Urjabhi asked a question.

“Wulf, do you have any news of Elsweyr?”
“No, Urjabhi. But you know it is serious when Forgotten Mane S’in Dunestride and Lunar Guard Do’Qua’Der rush back at Ambassador Baa’Ren-Dar’s request. I am sure I will be informed of any developments.”
“It would be good if our homeland was whole once more.”
“The Mane must remain alive if that is to happen.”
“Tahara and I are blessed to have been discovered by Baa’Ren.”
“We did not know any Khajiiti Blades remained alive, so we are also blessed he found you.”
“We did not look like Blades. Baa’Ren saw us sparring and recognised the sword forms. He is a person of great knowledge.”
“Indeed, he is.”
I teleported to The Safehouse. We were rotating two squads at a time to the smaller residence. It was the point of contact for The Order of the Dragon like Jorrvaskr was for The Companions. The squads in The Safehouse dealt with more minor issues, such as predator infestations on farms, missing persons, etc. Today, they were responsible for transporting the baked goods, sweets, and chocolates from The Safehouse to The Blue Palace.

I was tempted to sample the wares but knew that Wujeeta would soon fine the guilty one and give an expert ear bashing, if not a whack with a broom.
The sweets on display were not meant to be eaten anyway and were covered with preservatives and a foul-tasting gloss. An ample supply of free samples will be on hand. Magical lights highlight the goods.
I found some of the Divine Knights enjoying breakfast.

“Good morning, Raightur.”
“It has been a bit better since Wujeeta temporarily returned to Dragons Keep.”
“She is kind of heart if a bit gruff at times.”
“I can only imagine the difficulty and responsibility of looking after hundreds of children.”
“She has excellent assistants now, which eases her burden. But still, Wujeeta takes her position of Governess seriously. She is proud that the orphans’ work will be seen by royalty.”
“If any of us go missing after a cake or sweet is dropped, you know who the prime suspect will be.”
I walked over to our newest Divine Knight.

“This is a difficult first assignment, Divine Knight Barendresa.”
“The difficulty lies in the temptation to raid the stock of samples, Sir Wulf.”
“Nothing stops you from handing yourself a sample in The Blue Palace courtyard.”
“I could argue that we should taste test to ensure all is as it should be.”
“That would suggest to Wujeeta that you think the preparation was suspect.”
“Oh, that would not be a wise move.”
“No, it would not.”
Twin Bosmer had arrived in Solitude not long after we returned from Evermore. They asked to join The Dragonguard. We have had quite a few people ask to join; some were good enough to become Blades and live in Sky Haven Temple. The majority were not suitable. Vayu quickly approved Karo and Kian, who have proven valuable members. People get confused about which one is which. They made it easier for us by having slightly different beards. Karo has three knots in his beard. Kian has two.
Karo was working at the armour bench when I approached.

“Have you found good hunting nearby, Karo?”
“Indeed, there are plentiful deer, goats, and cattle within ten miles of Solitude. We find it amusing that farmers put so much effort into raising their animals when nature has provided plenty for the taking in the wild.”
“Who is winning the kill count?”
“We are even when hunting animals. However, of those who have tried to harm us, I lead by a few. We only count headshots.”
“Inigo says he is better than either of you.”
“He is close, but we rarely use our swords, so our marksmanship is slightly superior.”
“Are you nervous about meeting Imperial royalty for the first time?”
“No, as Bosmer, we are given some leniency in matters foreign to us. I doubt we shall commit any grave mistakes, and minor infractions of protocols will be understood.”
“Just relax and have fun. My Emperor and High Queen are not overly formal.”
“Will Rigmor be there?”
“Yes, Lady Viatira Pontalius will be there, as will Lady Olette Welkynd.”
“This masquerade must get tiresome.”
“It is required for Rigmor’s safety and plans of The Divines. As for Olette, she is always surrounded by Divine Knights, so I feel more relaxed about her close association with me being known.”
“Vayu briefed us on the Akavir situation.”
“I am about to meet His Imperial Majesty and will decide what to do afterwards.”
“I cannot imagine months at sea with only dead wood surrounding me and salted meats for nourishment.”
“I would think that would be some form of torture to many Bosmer.”
“May I suggest we add to the produce being offered in the future?”
“What do you have in mind?”
“Not all Bosmer in Skyrim are strict meat eaters. However, those who are will not consume your traditional sweets and desserts. Kian and I know many recipes for recreational foods that appeal to those who avoid plant products.”
“How about you prepare some when you get back to Aurane? Then we can discuss the possibility further.”
“It would be a pleasure.”

As I passed Kian, I said, “Karo says he is thrashing you in hunting and headshots.”
“Cracked acorns! May his ears be stuffed with whirlifly larvae and bow-hand bitten by a rabid stoat! That is untrue!”
“I know, Kian, but I look forward to learning more Bosmeri curses. They are quite inventive.”
“You are a thrice blasted son of a dreck-sifting root-munching bread-baking sot!”
“I do not think Lord Talos has ever baked bread.”
Kian laughed as I headed for the Museum entrance.
Guards pointed me to Auryen, who was preparing to start the day’s first tour.

“Good morning, Auryen.”
“And a pleasant morning to you, Sir Wulf.”
“Are you going to visit the sweet and chocolate exhibition?”
“Indeed, I am, and perhaps I can approach Wujeeta with a business option.”
“If you are going to propose the creation of souvenir sweets for the museum’s shop, Wujeeta already has plans.”
“In that case, the wise thing to do is let Wujeeta suggest the business proposal.”
“Yes, and do not gush too much about the quality of goods on display. It will not help when bargaining with our Argonian Overlord. If you like them so much, she will charge a premium.”
“I had better be careful with any deceit. Being an Argonian, she would smell something fishy!”
“That pun would earn you a beating with a broomstick.”
“Master Urag and I did some initial research on Longwang. We rely on the translation tables you provided to decipher Tsaesci. Therefore, it will take longer than usual to sort through the collections. We shall put aside texts that may help you, even if we have found no direct correlation.”
“I do not know when I will be travelling to Akavir, if at all. The journey would take several months, so there will be plenty of time for the research to be conducted.”
“Patronage is up 125 per cent over last month, and that was our busiest one yet!”
“As long as we keep recovering new items, we will have repeat patrons. As it is, you can only see a fraction of the exhibits during a single visit.”
“Unless you run from hall to hall like the children. I fear a terrible accident if they run full pelt into an elderly visitor.”
“I shall speak to the Governess about the problem. In the meantime, perhaps some “Do not run!” signs in several languages might be appropriate.”
“I shall get our artisans on it straight away. We must place them at rug-rat height.”
“Yes, my excellent Roscrea idioms are making their way into general use!”
“If the signs do not end their galivanting at high speed, perhaps some razor wire at the correct height will solve the problem.”
“And so is my dark humour.”
“Well, my first tour is about to commence, so I must be off.”
“Try not to bore anybody to death. Our insurance will not cover such misfortune.”
“Droll, Guild Master. Very droll.”
I exited the museum and made my way towards The Royal Palace. It is an excellent building used rarely and only by a visiting Emperor or Empress. To me, that is a waste of valuable real estate. Since I resolved the haunting of The Pelagius Wing in The Blue Palace, that could be used for state visits.

I entered the tunnels, which are a popular shortcut to the docks.

I cast Shroudwalk and made my way upstairs to a rarely used bridge.

I looked at the museum and realised I had not yet used the greenhouse I had constructed outside The Safehouse. It is not the first plan I have forgotten lately. I might have to maintain a diary as well as my journals.

The greenhouse will be used for Oblivion plants and fruits that will not survive Skyrim’s colder climate.
I did not cheat by using Heat Vision to spot the hidden Penitus Oculatus. They were the best agents out of thousands, so they have been chosen to guard His Imperial Majesty. I knew they were watching but could not spot them. I also knew they were expert marksman and could turn me into a porcupine from a surprising distance.
I used the key provided to enter the Royal Palace. An agent made an excellent crow call that sounded suspiciously like “Faaaaark!” I replied with an acceptable meow. That let the watchers know it was me, and there was no need to shoot the invisible key user in the back. One of the closer agents gave away his position with a snigger.

As soon as I closed the door, I dismissed Shroudwalk and continued my journey.

I entered the throne room and noticed a slight movement in one of the two observation holes above Mede’s head.

Before I could bow and get chastised for it, Mede stood to end all unnecessary protocol or show of subservience.

He said, “You asking for this meeting has caused this old man a sleepless night. So, put me out of my misery and tell me what disaster is about to unfold.”
“The problem does not immediately endanger The Empire or Tamriel, My Emperor. It is based in Akavir.”
“Have you discovered who attacked the Dragonguard compound?”
“No, but there may be some correlation. The extent of the problem is yet to be determined. It concerns Tenno Island, home of Emperor Temujin-Xikh of the Tsaesci Empire.”
“You likely have suspicions, Sir Wulf. So, ask and get honest answers.”
“Remind me never to play cards for money with you, My Emperor.”
“You are always refreshingly straightforward and somebody I trust completely. There are no state secrets I am unwilling to discuss with you. However, they are not going to be volunteered. You undoubtedly have ways of snooping which The Penitus Oculatus does not.”
“Was Emperor Temujin-Xikh’s rise to that station aided by The Empire?”
“Yes, and we are rightly proud of that subterfuge. Creating an Emperor from a bandit leader took time, and we have yet to see benefits worth the effort. However, we believe he will eventually fulfil his side of the bargain.”
“You asked him to end the enslavement of Man and the abolition of Blood Farms.”
“Correct.”
“How did you accomplish this subterfuge? Even The Dragonguard found it impossible to infiltrate Tenno Island and lost many agents attempting to do so.”
“An Imperial Battlemage with the same ability as yourself, what you call Ethereal Travel in your journals, has been in contact with Akaviri and Tsaesci for years. The Akaviri are not well educated and regard him as a benevolent god. Temujin-Xikh was not the only Tsaesci we attempted to aid. However, he was the most ruthless and bettered other contenders by listening to our advice.”
“Assassinate the right people, and the path becomes clear.”
“Assassinating without being caught or attracting suspicion was the test. Temujin has earned the title of Emperor by being a ruthless bastard. However, he is also keen to end the enslavement and thinks the Tsaesci who must drink the blood of Man are primitive savages.”
“Those Tsaesci cannot revert to animal blood without going insane. They will always need the blood of Man. However, they would not have to drink Man blood often, and that could be voluntarily provided with suitable compensation, as we pay for any produce. They could maintain their immortality and sanity using more acceptable methods.”
“Do all Tsaesci require blood as part of their diet?”
“Every Tsaesci is a vampire and, like the Cyrodiilic and Volkihar vampires of Tamriel, blood is required, and no other source of necessary nutrients can be substituted. The Tsaesci who invaded Tamriel did not feast on its citizens but were content to use the blood of beasts! Blood from any animal species is sufficient for Tamriel’s vampires, who can stop consuming mortal blood without consequences. Unlike the Tsaesci, the blood of any mortal is suitable, whether Man, Mer, Argonian or Khajiiti. In Tamriel, mortal blood is consumed in reverence to Molag Bal and for no other reason. The amount of mortal blood consumed on this continent far exceeds what is required to prevent starvation. The young vampires in the orphanages consume small amounts of animal blood to supplement an otherwise normal diet. It is no worse than eating an underdone steak, which many people, including myself, enjoy.”
“Are Tsaesci vampires devotees of Molag Bal?”
“No. Tsaesci vampirism is a product of natural development, not the invention of Molag Bal. However, they can infect mortals with a version of Sanguinare Vampiris. A bite is not required as they spit venom containing the disease or transmit it through Blood Magic. I would not be surprised if Tamriel’s Sanguinare Vampiris is a variation of the Tsaesci disease altered by Molag Bal.”
“Your knowledge of Akavir and its resident species far exceeds our agent’s. It is a pity you were not around when we started planning.”
“Is Endyval the name of the agent?”
“Endyval Dareth is his name. He is an Imperial Battlemage, as was his father and grandfather. It has been a tradition for many generations. One of his paternal ancestors was a Battlemage with Uriel Septim V’s Expeditionary Force. His written accounts ignited Endyval’s interest in Akavir, which led to his accidental discovery of Ethereal Travel.”
“It is a hard skill to detect and be trained for. Most proponents stumble upon the ability, and few learn to control it.”
“Endyval became quite adept, which is why we could use him to manipulate the politics in Akavir. Well, Tsaesci politics. It would be handy to influence the other native species.”
“Do you know where Endyval is?”
“No, he became a bit of a recluse and only contacts us spasmodically.”
“Let me explain the problem.”
“Please do.”
“The Psijic Order aided the surviving Dragonguard to establish a new home. They commandeered a small island of Akavir called Akashima. Like the Psijic island of Artaeum, Akashima is no longer where it used to be and is hidden by powerful dweomer. Dragonguard numbers are insufficient for them to still aid people in Akavir. However, that does not stop them from using scrying and spies to maintain a knowledge of the political situation in that distant land. Yesterday was my first contact with the survivors for three months. I visited Akashima and spoke to Grandmaster Mitsumori and other senior Dragonguard. They wanted to know what has been happening in Tamriel and to discuss a potential problem on Tenno Island.”
“What is their interest in Tamriel?”
“They were only concerned with the problems The Order of the Dragon dealt with.”
“They have been extensive.”
“But less disturbing than Evermore.”
“King Sigmayne’s pleas for mercy were an embarrassment. He could have accepted his guilt and the punishment with more dignity. But enough about that unpleasant task. I am guilty of steering us from the topic at hand. I wonder if that is an ailment I caught from you?”
“I could digress from the topic and discuss that possibility if you desire?”
“Sir Wulf, wipe that grin off your face and continue.”
I curtsied as I said, “As you wish, My Emperor.”
I heard sniggers from both observation holes as Mede unsuccessfully tried to suppress a guffaw.
I continued, “After discussing our activities, Lord Raikou, the Dragonguard’s senior shaman, explained their concern. He uses scrying to spy upon Tennon Island. They rely on that because, as I mentioned earlier, they could not successfully install agents on the island.”
“Vayu has mentioned Lord Raikou to me before. His is Kamal, is he not?”
“Yes, but I have not met another Kamal with a third eye. It is quite disturbing, but he is pleasant and likable.”
“I have once again set us on another tangent. Perhaps I need to bite my tongue to prevent future occurrences.”
“Questions quickly answered are acceptable, My Emperor. Discussing how he got the third eye is a lengthy topic that would be a tangent.”
“I assume Lord Raikou saw something that disturbed him.”
“There was nothing specific but an overwhelming sense of wrongness. Shamans like Lord Raikou and Vayu are trained to sense and act upon such things and not dismiss them. We decided I would try to use Ethereal Travel to discover the source of wrongness.”
“How does that work?”
“It is not guaranteed to work every time. I created an Empathetic Link with Vayu. That allowed him to see and hear what I did. He created one with Lord Raikou, and five people soon shared my vision and hearing. I then willed myself to discover the source of wrongness that Lord Raikou sensed. It was like when I travelled backward through time to witness The Ancient Tongues and Alduin, except there was no Time Wound or Elder Scroll involved.”
“I have had some mages try to explain that incident to me. I get dizzy thinking about it.”
“I have had no training in Ethereal Travel. I let my uncanny instincts guide me, and as I recently learned, they are a gift from Lord Shor. As with Mage Endyval, I accidentally discovered my Ethereal Travel ability. I am sensitive to others who are subconsciously pleading for help. That is how I first encountered Rigmor in this kalpa. In this instance, a person from hundreds of years ago wanted me to witness his encounter with a supernatural being he called a Shadow of Longwang. This being had murdered all the monks of a temple and then tried to overpower my host with telepathic suggestions. I do not have all my abilities available while travelling ethereally. Therefore, I could not discern the Shadow of Longwang’s species. He could be a Dremora, or Demi-God, or even a God. All I know is it was an avatar of an immortal called Longwang. I had to flee before Longwang recognised my ethereal presence, for I was vulnerable in that form.”
“You say that encounter was hundreds of years before.”
“Yes, but I cannot say if it was two hundred or nine hundred years before. I hope Auryen and Master Urag can find something to give me a timeline. A God of the Seas called Longwang is worshipped by some Tsaesci and Akaviri. However, that god is benevolent, so we doubt he is the Longwang that killed the monks. The difficulty is that much of Tsaesci history has been deliberately hidden. Why and by whom, we do not know. So, unless my sources can find some information, only a visit to Tenno Island will enable me to assess the danger.”
“You said The Dragonguard have failed to establish agents there.”
“I have many advantages over the best spies of The Penitus Oculatus or The Dragonguard regarding stealth and disguise. I am also Dragonborn. If you think Nords are besotted with that title, remember why some Tsaesci invaded Skyrim.”
“They sought a Dragonborn.”
“Yes. So, if anything, revealing myself as Dragonborn will attract both allies and enemies on Tenno Island. I can prepare somewhat as the surviving Dragonguard have intimate knowledge of the factions on the island.”
“What else can you tell me?”
“After fleeing the encounter with Longwang’s avatar, I was drawn to the here and now. An Akaviri fisherman had travelled in a small sailing boat from Akavir to meet Mage Endyval. Unfortunately, he wrecked off the coast near Solitude and died of the cold as I spoke to him ethereally.”
“Like Rigmor, he pleaded for help.”
“Yes, and because I was concentrating on what caused Lord Raikou’s unease, I was drawn to the dying Akaviri. Logically, what the Akaviri travelled so far to tell Mage Endyval is related to Longwang.”
“Did he give you a message for Endyval?”
“He said, ‘Find Foggy Vale in High Rock. Speak to Endyval. Tell him…sun…rises. Our day. Our day!’”
“Do you think the Akaviri are planning a rebellion?”
“Yes. I will know more when I visit with Endyval. Does he have instructions regarding the organising or supporting such a rebellion?”
“He was ordered to leave Emperor Temujin-Xikh and Tenno Island alone apart from reporting progress on the reforms to me. He seemed reluctant to leave the status quo, as he has developed much empathy for the plight of the Akaviri.”
“Would he act against that order?”
“I do not know. Perhaps you can tell me after you visit him.”
“The balance between Tsaesci forces and those of Emperor Tosh Raka’s Ka’Po’Tun armies has ensured they are so busy killing each other that Tamriel has been saved from further invasions.”
“If that balance is upset, and Tosh Raka’s forces are freed, he will not hesitate to invade.”
“Yes. Therefore, whatever is happening on Tenno Island is of immediate concern to many. We cannot let the Tsaesci be weakened, but neither can we ignore the plight of the enslaved Akaviri.”
“What is your plan, Sir Wulf?”
“It will take me a couple of hours to reach Mage Endyval. I must do so in disguise, for he may not appreciate the interference of The Dragonborn. Did you receive a Corb from Vayu?”
“Yes, and after my court mages are satisfied it is not some sinister scrying device, I intend to have it travel with me.”
“Give me a day or two to visit Endyval and allow Auryen and Master Urag some time to search their archives. I will contact you via Corb, and we can plan a course of action based on more thorough knowledge.”
“As a precaution, I will prepare a document that gives you my authority in dealing with Akavir. If Endyval or other citizens of The Empire interfere with Akavir, they will obey that decree or be regarded as traitors.”
“That may be useful if I have to strong-arm Mage Endyval. However, I think I may need his cooperation to uncover any plans for a rebellion. But this is speculation until I speak to him.”
“You said there may be some correlation between the problems on Tenno Island and the attack on The Dragonguard compound.”
“That is something I also desire to uncover. Grandmaster Mitsumori and others were disturbed by an aspect of the attackers. Most were Nords and Imperials who were not vampires and displayed Legionnaire tactics and sword forms. They think they are the Legionnaires of Emperor Uriel Septim V’s expeditionary forces turned undead. A type of undead Tamriel’s necromancers cannot replicate. These undead are intelligent and have maintained their skills. The Dragonguard have named them Remnants, and there could be four legions of them, kept for some purpose yet to be uncovered.”
“They will be used against us. Attack The Empire with the same troops we sent against them. I doubt who controls them is working under Emperor Temujin-Xikh’s instructions. They are likely a splinter group like The New Order.”
“That is what we concluded. However, if I visit Tenno Island, part of my time must be spent uncovering who has secreted thousands of undead Legionnaires for hundreds of years.”
“Do The Dragonguard suspect the attack on their compound was designed to hide the plans of those in control of the Remnants.”
“Yes.”
“I do not know if I will sleep any easier now the problem has been revealed.”
“I do not know if I will survive telling Countess Rigmor that I cannot attend this morning’s activities in The Blue Palace courtyard.”
“Who is she today?”
“Lady Viatira Pontalius. She is my latest friend with benefits.”
“That is a saying that did not exist in my youth. We called our lovers our latest squeeze.”
“Either term paints me as a lecher. I get propositioned enough as it is.”
“Oh, you poor thing.”
“You need to practice your sarcasm more, My Emperor.”
“Tell me honestly, Sir Wulf, how good are the confections I am to sample?”
“I doubt you will have tasted better. Please sample as much as possible before starting on the box of chocolates Olette will give you. No matter how good the rest of the products are, nothing compares to the hand-crafted delights in that box. Nothing approaches the sum we will charge for such an assortment.”
“How much?”
“Fifteen hundred Septims for the most exclusive collection. A mere thousand for the cheaper box.”
“And you think people will be willing to pay those prices?”
“I have no doubt. The exclusivity will attract those with more money than sense. Such steep prices are worth it to those trying to impress potential lovers. We intend to disprove the adage ‘Candy is dandy, but liquor is quicker.’”
“Anything else I should look out for?”
“There is a small cylinder of chocolates we think will become quite popular. The centre of each chocolate is created from fruits and plants that grow in various parts of Oblivion. Experts from The College of Winterhold have developed techniques to grow some Oblivion produce in specially prepared outdoor plots. Other Oblivion produce will require special soil and a greenhouse climate. We have ensured that no Oblivion plants we are using can grow in the wild in normal soil.”
“The mention of Oblivion sends shivers up many of our citizens’ spines. That primal fear will make those chocolates a desired product.”
“That is what we are hoping. The Oblivion plants and fruits also have unique alchemical traits. We shall sell those reagents for a hefty price. Where else are alchemists going to obtain them?”
“You had better get moving, Sir Wulf. It will not be long before the procession of Divine Knights carrying goodies to The Blue Palace begins.”
I quickly bowed at the waist and teleported before Mede could chastise me.
Olette and Rigmor were busy mingling with Divine Knights and staff in the main living area.
I said to Rigmor, via Mara’s Rings, “Please, my beloved. Do not enter my rooms till I call for you.”
“Why is that?”
“All will be revealed!”
“Not in front of Olette, I hope!”
“Control yourself, Countess Pervert.”
“Pfft! It is you who attacks this defenceless, innocent teenager when lust controls your actions!”
“That is not what history shows.”
“Well, hurry up because I want to know the gossip from our favourite Emperor.”
I cut my ponytail off. I have had braided or unbraided long hair since I was about five, and I felt bald without it. I burnt it out of existence with Magicka rather than store it away. I then cut my hair into uneven lengths, like I had a friend do it rather than a barber. I shaved my beard to stubble, then used Magicka to change my eye colour to dark brown. I retrieved an outfit like those preferred by sailors in warmer climates from my Oblivion pocket plane.

I said to Rigmor, “Please bring Olette. I want to see what fashion disaster you have forced upon my daughter.”
The ladies entered, stopped and were speechless. Both stared at me, but at least Olette had enough dignity to shut her mouth. On the other hand, Rigmor looked like a beached fish with her mouth opening and closing.

- Wulf: You two look beautiful. Hey, did you notice Olette is now taller than you, Rigmor?
- Rigmor: What have you done?
- Wulf: I had to disguise myself when joining Riften’s Thieves Guild and The Companions, and you never objected.
- Rigmor: You used fake scars and tattoos and undid your ponytail. You did not cut your hair or shave your beard. What happened to your eyes?
- Olette: Can’t you cast a spell to change your appearance or wear some magical thingy that disguises you?
- Wulf: I will be dealing with a mage and may be near him for extended periods. I cannot risk him seeing through a magical disguise.
- Rigmor: Is a long boat trip inevitable?
- Wulf: I do not know until I meet with the mage. But I must appear as I would for the boat trip if required.
- Olette: What is with the weird clothes?
- Wulf: This style is popular with sailors in tropical regions. I will present myself as an experienced sailor who has dealt with Tsaesci.
- Rigmor: How are you getting to High Rock, and when do you leave?
- Wulf: I am going to leave very soon. Come outside, and I will explain how I will get to where the mage lives.
- Olette: Will you be with us at The Blue Palace?
- Wulf: Sorry, but no, Olette. I am worried about what is happening in Akavir, and so is His Imperial Majesty.
- Rigmor: How long will you be gone?
- Wulf: I do not know. That depends on what happens when I meet the mage. I will not agree to accompany him immediately, and if things progress as I think they will, I should be back before or just after midday.
- Rigmor: Come on then, Dragonbum. Show us how you plan to get to that place in High Rock. Why you cannot tell us inside is a puzzle.
We walked to a clearing, and I explained, “The last time I visited Lady Kynareth’s shrine in High Hrothgar, she taught me another Shout. Watch.”

I Shouted a modified version of Dragon Aspect, and the usual armour appeared. However, a pair of wings also appeared.

I leapt off the ground and hovered with a gentle beating of my wings.

Olette looked away and said, “You are not a bird. You will kill yourself!”
I gently replied, “No, Olette, I am a dragon, and they do not die when flying. Watch.”
I flew through arches and zig-zagged between trees.

I hovered near a fountain, and Olette ran to me.

I told her, “This comes naturally to me. I did not have to learn to fly, just the Shout to let me do so.”
“None of the guards took notice of you flying around.”
“They have seen me do it several times.”
“How fast can you go?”
“Not as fast as a dragon, but I think I can reach where I need to go in High Rock in two hours or less.”
“You had better calm Rigmor down, Cap’n. She was worried you would dash yourself against the mountains or something.”
I landed in front of Rigmor and Shouted the first word of Dragon Aspect to end it.

I reassured her, “Lady Kynareth was not worried. She gave me the Shout because she thought it would be useful. I can fly while Shroudwalk is active, and nobody on the ground would see me.”
“And this is how you will get to that place in High Rock?”
“Yes. I shall teleport to Mor Khazgur, close to Jehanna’s border. Sorrow Mountain is the only obstacle between me and Foggy Vale, where Endyval lives. It is quite high, but I have taken off from Ivarstead and flown over The Throat of the World to the amusement of several dragons. Therefore, Sorrow Mountain will be a breeze. I will then head for the coast and follow that till I reach Foggy Vale. I will teleport back.”
“What if the spell ends when you are high up?”
“It is a Shout, Rigmor, and can only be ended using the first Word of Power like I did. Not only that, I can cast Featherfall and float to the ground if need be. Or I could pick a spot on the ground and Blink there.”
“What if you fly into a dragon’s territory, and they attack you?”
“I can use my Thu’um, Magicka and weapons as if on the ground. Dragonrend would make the aggressive dragon land while I could stay in the air and attack with impunity. The roles would be reversed.”
“You could have eased me into it instead of flying around Aurane like an idiot!”
“Rigmor, I can fly to Foggy Vale and be there in a couple of hours or use a sailboat and get there in a week. If I used Rava or flew on a dragon, I might as well not be disguised. They might see either and realise I was The Dragonborn. They will not see me flying because I shall use the Shroudwalk spell.”
“I am just being a worry-wart. Sorry.”
“You are upset because I may be gone for some time. I have ways of letting us be together. Trust me.”
“We don’t even know what you will have to do.”
“Everything is speculation till I know more. Let us go to The Safehouse and see if Wujeeta is pleased with the preparations. Then you and Olette can make your way to The Blue Palace.”
We teleported into The Safehouse. Wujeeta was inspecting the candies and cake displays.

She turned to us and gave a toothy grin.

- Olette: It is good to see you, Wujeeta.
- Wujeeta: And I am pleased to see you, not so little one.
- Olette: Yeah, I am taller than Rigmor now. But I am tired of growing upwards. I want some things to start growing outward.
- Wujeeta: Are you using brassieres yet?
- Wulf: Ahem. Can you continue this discussion when I am absent?
- Olette: I had never seen Cap’n squeamish before Rigmor made him sit and listen to our mother-daughter discussion about menses.
- Wujeeta: Some boys at Dragons Keep have upchucked when we use realistic illustrations to demonstrate childbirth.
- Olette: Hehe.
- Rigmor: Dare I ask what illustrations are used to teach reproduction?
- Olette: I bet they use books like the one Cap’n left on my bed. It was titled, ‘Where do babies come from?’
- Rigmor: He asked, no, pleaded, for me to answer your questions.
- Olette: Methinks Cap’n forgot what I used to see when sneaking around Riften.
- Rigmor: My Dad did the same thing. He left the same book on my bed and avoided any discussion. It was up to Mom to have ‘that talk.’
- Wujeeta: Although this is fun making that stranger pretending to be Wulf squirm, I have some last-minute berating to do before we head for The Blue Palace.
- Wulf: Did you bring your broom?
- Wujeeta: No, because an errant swing might damage the displays. A good tongue-lashing will have to suffice.
Wujeeta wandered off, and I waved my hands over the displays to trigger the magic lighting.

Jin came rushing over and handed me three boxes of chocolates that I placed on a bench.

- Rigmor: What are they?
- Wulf: Gourmet chocolates for the rich and spoiled. Each piece is hand-crafted and filled with only the finest centres.
- Olette: Are they any different from the regular chocolates?
- Wulf: They are of no higher quality, but their centres are not in the standard range. We think many people will be willing to pay a steep price to impress others.
- Rigmor: What kind of price?
- Wulf: We charge 1500 Septims for the thicker box and 1000 Septims for the skinnier box.
- Rigmor: Nobody in their right mind would pay that much!
- Wulf: Would you like to place a wager on that? Olette, sometime during the proceedings, a Divine Knight will hand you the expensive box. You are to present it to His Imperial Majesty and thank him for attending the tasting.
- Olette: Rigmor has made me practice curtsies in case one was needed.
- Rigmor: These dresses are excellent for curtsying. They flare out quite spectacularly.
- Olette: How much is the smaller cylinder box of chocolates?
- Wulf: 200 Septims. The fillings of that assortment are made from plants and fruits that grow in different parts of Oblivion. No other chocolatiers offer such unique morsels.
- Olette: Cool!
- Rigmor: Cool!
- Olette: Ha, I said it first.
- Rigmor: Word stealer!
- Olette: Shorty!
The two started giggling. Rigmor missed her early teens, and Olette’s presence allows her to catch up on some of it.
I said goodbye to both with a kiss and a hug. I then cast Shroudwalk before teleporting to Mor Khazgur.

I climbed onto a platform and looked around to orient myself, as I did not visit Mor Khazgur often.

I Shouted Dragon Aspect, which caused a bit of a stir amongst the resident Orsimer, and lifted from the platform.

I rose rapidly and then headed for Sorrow Mountain.

I flew over border forts I had never visited.

Jehanna’s population is mostly Nords with family connections to Skyrim. Its landscape and architecture were familiar. However, when flying along the coast, I was met with a unique vista.

Instead of the ice fields of The Sea of Ghosts, strange rock formations jutted from the water. Like snowflakes, they appeared similar at first glance, but further inspection revealed their uniqueness.

I wondered how they formed. It is a puzzle I will pursue when I get a chance.

The sand was grey, and I saw no Horkers or other familiar wildlife on the shore. However, plenty of birds lived atop the strange rock formations.

The first sign of civilisation was a jetty and a couple of boats. The jetty was old but had been repaired.

Silah had described Dhalraj’s boat to me. It was no larger than the small sailboat near the jetty. However, it had the triangular sails that all the races of Akavir use. They have many advantages over the square sails used throughout The Empire.

A lighthouse caught my attention, and I flew to it.

Heat Vision showed an undead of some sort was not moving.

Intrigued, I landed at the lighthouse’s base and dispelled Shroudwalk.
When closer, Heat Vision showed two living people inside the lighthouse.

I called out, “Hello, is that you Endyval? I have a message for you.”
I was not surprised to find a hostile necromancer and apprentice.

Unrelenting Force killed both. The apprentice’s ashes joined those of the undead I had detected with Heat Vision. The ability to detect undead, dead and recently deceased is a latent ability I have only recently learned to utilise.

I was sure the intact dead necromancer was not Endyval.
I climbed to the top of the lighthouse and looked around.

Well-constructed roads were being erased by nature. I could see a small farm and headed towards it.

The odd burnt stump and destroyed stone walls were witnesses to the village that once existed here.

A well was probably part of the town centre.

The lack of intact timbers was intriguing. I assume what was salvageable was carted away.
The farm was far enough away from the lighthouse that the Unrelenting Force Shout would not have been heard.

I entered the farm and knocked on the cottage’s door.

There was silence at first, but Heat Vision let me know somebody was inside.

I said, “I am looking for a person called Endyval. I have a message for him.”
A not-very confident voice said, “Enter, but be aware I am a mage of some power and will burn you to a crisp if need be!”
I entered and was positive Endyval stood before me. He wore robes denoting that he had earned the rank of Master of Destruction at The College of Winterhold.

“Greetings. I am Teris Rulus of Roscrea. Are you Endyval?”
“I do not know who you are talking about. I am just an old man living alone out of choice.”
“Far from being a defenceless old man, I see you wear the robes of a Master of Destruction. Therefore, the threat of burning me to a crisp was real. You are Endyval, aren’t you?”
“Yes, I am. How do you know my name? How did you know I was here?”
“An Akaviri named Dhalraj asked me to find you and deliver a message. That was his dying wish, so here I am, for it would be sinful not to fulfil it.”
“What was the message?”
“Quote, ‘Find Foggy Vale in High Rock. Speak to Endyval. Tell him…sun…rises. Our day. Our day!’ I have left out the death rattle.”
“Is that all he said?”
“Yes. Dhalraj died from the cold after his small sailboat floundered on rocks near Solitude. He was burned with his boat in deep water, as is the tradition amongst sea fairing Akaviri. I think he was a fisherman, for the boat was of the type they use along the Akavir coastlines. His name was on several small items within the boat.”
“Oh, Gods. He made it that far! I told him it was dangerous and not to attempt it.”
“I admire Dhalraj’s courage and seamanship. I doubt I could replicate either. It would have taken months to get that far and probably another month and a half to reach here.”
“How did he get that far? How?”
“Could it have been a lust for profit or a more noble goal? Or maybe he was so miserable in his homeland that he was ready to tear himself through the ocean’s raging fury for a better life. To swim to the shore of the last hope.”
Endyval looked stunned.
I explained, “I am paraphrasing a passage from a book I found in Dhalraj’s boat.”
Endyval murmured, “Coast of Last Hope. Chronicle of Niril Dareth Part I. I wonder where he found a copy?”
“He was the first Akaviri I have encountered in Skyrim. For that reason, I placed some importance on his message and put effort into reaching this place, which is not close to my home, I assure you.”
“You probably want a reward. Forgive this old fool, but I do not have anything I can reward you with.”
“I do not seek compensation for doing the right thing. All I ask for is an explanation. That message suggests an uprising. Whatever is happening in Akavir, I have no doubt my help would be beneficial. But that help is dependent on what I would be committing to.”
“It would be stupid of me to refuse your help. You are resourceful and well-read. But why are you concerned about what is happening in Akavir?”
“Tell me the story of Dhalraj, and if appropriate, I will tell you my sad tale.”
“I knew Dhalraj well, even though I had never met him. Fortunately, my many years of studying magic were not in vain. From an ancestor, I inherited a lot of scrolls and manuscripts he wrote, including the original of that book you found.”
“It is amazing what knowledge can be found in dusty scrolls and tomes. Good wine and cheese are needed during the consumption of such knowledge.”
“That is true. But being too comfortable can lead to the situation I shall now describe. I must have nodded off, which was not unusual. However, this time, something happened I did not understand. A thread of magical power carried my mind away into the unknown! I saw mountains and forests. I was seeing an unknown continent as if I was floating high above it. I saw huts of an unknown settlement and its people. I wanted to know who they were. That is how I discovered Akavir!”
“Akavir has hundreds of islands, and several nations share the mainland. Which part of Akavir did you see?”
“I am unsure. I know the current Emperor lives near the fishing village where Dhalraj came from.”
“Then it is Tennon Island. Did the relative from whom you inherited the scrolls and tomes visit Tennon Island?”
“No. That ancestor was part of Uriel Septim’s campaign but never reached Akavir. He was one of the great mages who linked the Emperor with his people in Tamriel.”
“The magic wielded by Tsaesci shamans thwarted their ability to communicate.”
“Yes, he did mention that. He also suspected unseasonal storms were also caused by magics unknown to him.”
“What you did was Ethereally Travel. Many people stumble upon the ability, and often, unspoken pleas for help direct their Consciousness to a particular place. Because you were reading about Akaviri and somebody amongst them pleaded for help, you found yourself, ethereally, amongst them. What did you learn from the people of Akavir?”
“Old legends are most often works of fiction. The Tsaesci did not exterminate the Akaviri but turned them into enslaved people a long time ago.”
“The terminology used is they ate Man. Not Khajiiti or any form of Mer but Man, the descendants of Wandering Ehlnofey. Men, if you prefer. Lazy scholars took the literal meaning. Since the Tsaesci are vampires, it was a lazy leap of logic to assume the Tsaesci consumed all Men on Akavir. It means they absorbed them into their society as an enslaved race, as The Dwemer did with the fleeing Snow Elves who sought their aid.”
“Indeed, you are very well-read.”
“Despite my relative youth, I have travelled widely and immersed myself in the beliefs and customs of many people. I have put my knowledge to good use. But please, continue.”
“The more I listened to the stories of those poor people, the more I wanted to help them.”
“And how does an elderly mage living in the ruins of a village propose to aid people thousands of miles away?”
“Not like the reckless gamble of Emperor Uriel Septim. He relied on his soldier’s bravery and thought that force can solve everything.”
“Emperor Uriel Septim the Fifth was an idiot. His stupidity left a bankrupt Empire in the hands of an infant. He acted on poor intelligence and made assumptions that proved erroneous.”
“The Tsaesci are smart, but even a smart species can be wrapped around your little finger if you know their weaknesses. I spent a year gathering information, bit by bit, about the Tsaesci Empire. I have even learnt their language.”
“Ziis zuulaav, aahrk naas sizaan kivulaan muhaal.” (I know the language and several local dialects.)
“You know Tsaesci?”
“You are a Mage and have undoubtedly learned the worth of logic. Did Dhalraj speak Tamrielic or any other language of this continent?”
“No. Very few Akaviri can read or write Tsaesci, never alone learn a foreign language.”
“So, how did I understand what Dhalraj was saying?”
“How did I understand what the Akaviri natives were saying?”
“Even if they tried to speak to you in Tamrielic, your Ethereal component changed thoughts into your native language. Your Head Voice. You must have realised this because you then learnt their language, knowing you could not always rely on Ethereal Travelling to aid the Akaviri.”
“Did you Ethereally Travel to Dhalraj?”
“Yes, but even if I were physically there, I would understand him because I can speak, read, and write Tsaesci. Let us end your tale, and I will explain how this came to be. Also, remember I said that people Ethereally Travel without intent when subconsciously responding to a person pleading for help.”
“Eventually, I became a form of guardian spirit to them. I soon realised that all our knowledge of Akavir was nothing but our bias.”
“Why do you think that?”
“We have been making up legends for centuries. They inspired a respectful fear of the threat from the east. But for centuries, Akavir has shown no signs of life. No one sails from there for trade or war.”
“You are mistaken about war, Mage Endyval. Emperor Tosh Raka and Emperor Temujin-Xikh are busy fighting a war that has lasted hundreds of years and cannot spare the troops for an invasion of Tamriel. That has not reduced Emperor Tosh Raka’s desire to do so. If the Ka’Po’Tun ever gained a sufficient advantage over the Tsaesci, they would soon visit Tamriel. The enslaved Akaviri may be ignorant of this ongoing conflict, for it has not touched Tennon Island.”
“Without the blood of Man, the Tsaesci lose their main advantage, immortality. That is why they need the enslaved as much as air to breathe. The Akaviri survive because they are bred like cattle. They are used for field work and their blood. Sadly, most Akaviri seem to be as docile and ignorant as cattle. They are mindless and obedient, living only for their masters.”
“You have gained some knowledge from the Akaviri but misunderstand the situation. Not all Tsaesci drink the blood of Man. Most survive on the blood of beasts and are still immortal. However, if a Tsaesci consumes the blood of Man for too long, the change to beast blood causes a loss of intellect. They become insane. Removing Man from their diet will not end their immortality. It will end their sanity. They would become ravenous hunters no different than the wild werewolves of Tamriel.”
“How sure are you of this?”
“You think you can manipulate the Tsaesci because you know their secrets. You do not! I have lived with some citizens of Akavir for years. That includes a few Akaviri who the Tsaesci had never enslaved. Many Akaviri live freely among the other races. Even the Ka’Po’Tun tolerate Akaviri out of pity. My knowledge is not second-hand from enslaved Akaviri who only know what their masters want them to know. Any Tsaesci you have dealt with would be reluctant to disclose the secrets of their race. Do not assume your intellect is superior to theirs and that they are easily manipulated.”
“Regardless, Dhalraj was trying to say, ‘The sun of our day will rise!’ That is what he wanted to tell me, and he was right. Akavir is changing, and now we can help his people.”
“Once again, I ask, how can you or a small band of people from Tamriel help the Akaviri?”
“I must reach Akavir. Once there, I will do the rest. Trust me on this, for I will not disclose my plans. Tell me how you have developed such extensive knowledge of Tsaesci and Akaviri. How did it come about that you lived with them for years?”
“The East Empire Company saw potential in establishing trade routes with Akavir. They hired me because I have many skills. Over several years, I contacted, befriended, and recruited several Akavir natives, including Ka’Po’Tun, Tsaesci and Tang Mo. We shared the desire to create and profit from the proposed trade routes and decided that the Tang Mo were the most likely to cooperate.
It turned out that the Tang Mo craved one thing we sourced from Elsweyr: processed cacao beans. They became obsessed with chocolate in its various forms. However, nothing was produced in that country that The East Empire Company wanted to import. Their obsession is two-way trade, so despite high profits, they urged us to expand into other Akavir countries.
We decided on the Ka’Po’Tun and began preliminary investigations on what, if any, trade goods would be suitable. We did not hide our activities as we did not want to anger Emperor Tosh Raka. We hoped he would be amendable to such trade proposals. Unfortunately, his hatred for Tamriel exceeded his desire for profitable trading. He sent elite troops aboard one of his impressive warships to wipe the stain of Tamriel from the land and seas of his people. Considering the small trading vessel we were on, it was overkill.
As I struggled to survive the surprise attack, I witnessed my friends being torn limb from limb by enraged Ka’Po’Tun berserkers. Two Akaviri friends kept the Ka’Po’Tun busy to aid my escape. I swam for miles before dragging myself ashore onto a small island inhabited by free Akaviri. They aided me, so once more, I found myself indebted to Akaviri.
It took me several months to reach our headquarters in Tang Mo and many more to reach The Imperial City, where I told The East Empire Company that I was no longer interested in dealing with Akavir.
I desire to aid the enslaved Akaviri for altruistic reasons. It is a bit of a change of attitude for me. I no longer measure my worth by the contents of profit and loss ledgers. This desire to help the Akaviri caused me to ethereally respond to Dhalraj’s predicament on the cold sands of Skyrim’s northern coast.”
I knew Endyval would swallow my lies. In me, he saw an ally with skills and knowledge he did not possess. I do have genuine empathy for the plight of the enslaved Akaviri, and that made the lies easier to deliver.
I waited a few seconds for dramatic effect. After all, I had just mentioned the bloody deaths of close comrades.
I asked, “Do you want to know more, Mage Endyval?”
“No, Teris. This trip to Akavir would be a personal crusade for you.”
“So, what is your plan?”
“Our strength will not be in quantity. Not at first. However, we can gather an army of associates if need be. For now, our task is to scope the land out. However, we are short of funds. I have found a willing crew and suitable vessel but require another fifty thousand Septims to seal the deal.”
“Is this to pay mercenaries or just a crew to get us there?”
“I have already got a seaworthy vessel, supplies, and weapons. I do not intend to take mercenaries. However, fifty thousand Septims is the price an experienced crew have demanded for their services. I found no other crew of equal quality, and this lot has good references.”
“Despite my misfortune in Akavir, I am wealthy thanks to my properties on Roscrea. However, I do not carry around one and a half tons of Septims. Inter-province traders dislike using gold coins as currency as weight and purity vary, and nobody wants to lug around tons of coins. Instead, many of us use these.”
I poured half the contents of my gem bag onto a table. Endyval’s eyes widened as they glittered.
I continued, “I am a trusting, peaceful person, Mage Endyval. However, those who try to rob me or double-cross me find parts of their body being systematically removed until my anger subsides. I know the gems in this bag are worth at least seventy-five thousand. That leaves a good margin for even a poor haggler to get fifty thousand. Take the bag and pay for the crew with the gems or gold.”
I scooped the gems back into the bag and handed it to Endyval.
“I thank you for your trust, Teris. We will leave from a pier about ten miles north east of Cormaris in seven days. Follow the coastline and you will come across a whale skeleton. The pier is nearby. The tides there are not critical to ease of passage, so arrive at your leisure.”
“I hope the ash from Red Mountain is heading towards Solstheim. It does terrible things to my sinuses.”
“I will see you in a week.”
“Before you go, think about this. You claimed the enslaved Akaviri are no better than cattle. How did Dhalraj find a copy of that book? It was written in Tamrielic, and he didn’t understand that language or even be able to read Tsaesci, according to you. You will succeed more in Akavir if you disregard your speculation and learn the reality in person.”
Endyval cast Recall and vanished. He had no idea he was talking to the mage who taught that spell to Imperial Battlemages.

I had a look around Endyval’s cottage. There is no chance he spent all his time in the humble abode.

I contacted Rigmor via Mara’s Rings.
“How did the taste testing go?”
“It seems the children in Solitude’s orphanage had prewarning of the event and were the first in the queue.”
“Oh, I wonder who told them about it?”
“It was like that children’s story where a bard uses a magical flute to make a town’s rats follow him. A couple of dozen Divine Knights carrying cakes and sweets on a circuitous route to The Blue Palace soon had a trail of citizens following.”
“That was all Wujeeta’s idea from beginning to end. She just needed me to get permission from Elisif.”
“But she did not plan on His Imperial Majesty giving an impromptu speech with a mouthful of chocolate cake.”
“I would like to have seen that!”
“He would say a few words, take another bite of cake, make contented sounds, and then continue his speech. After he finished his speech, he licked the cream from his fingers and headed for more cake.”
“It is good that people saw the lighter side of Mede.”
“I believe his praise was genuine, and I think your various kitchens will be quite busy for some time.”
“Did you get a chance to catch up on court gossip with Elisif?”
“Yes, of course I did. What a silly question. Poor Elisif is already being pressured to remarry and pop out an heir and a spare.”
“It will not be long before you suffer the same. After all, you are nineteen and only have another twenty years of childbearing capability!”
“Idiot.”
“Did Olette give Mede the box of chocolates?”
“Yes, and he insisted they sit together and try a few. Your daughter is in no way shy or intimidated by rank!”
“I am finished here, and there is still half a day left. So, I would like to take you and Olette on my rounds of our properties. I do like to show my face at least once a month.”
“I haven’t seen all of them.”
“Neither has Olette.”
“We shall dress down a bit. All this glittery, showy stuff was for the stick-up-their-bum nobles.”
“It does look like I will travel by ship to Akavir unless Mede wants me to prevent Endyval’s plans. They are unauthorised.”
“Tell me about them in person. See you soon, my Dragonborn.”
I teleported into Aurane and put aside thoughts about Akavir. I was determined to enjoy my time with Rigmor and Olette.
Amazing Work as always 👍👍👍
What mysteries await the dragonborn?! Thank You Mark
Game’s afoot! Thank you, Mark
What a great read, looking forward to reading the rest of these entries. I have been reading the second set and started from entry one of this set. Catching up. Thank you Mark.
Mod destroyed my save game…hence the delay in the latest entry. Almost done.
No rush. It is worth the waiting!
I was having so much fun writing this bit the entry hit 25000 words before I decided it need truncating.
